Tudor Falconry

Meet our finely dressed Tudor Falconers as they recreate the glorious and noble art of falconry in the spectacular castle grounds. Falconry was a favourite pursuit of Henry VIII and his wives and courtiers, the white falcon serving as the personal motif of Queen Anne Boleyn who was formerly secretly betrothed to Henry Percy! The Earl of Northumberland is known to have kept hunting birds at the castle and no doubt entertained guests hawking for game on the surrounding water meadows.

Raphael Historic Falconry will bring their story to life through the flights of their beautiful birds; watch dynamic falcons stooping overhead and learn about the more rudimentary art of hawking for the table. Visit the Hawk Mews to see the birds at rest, chat to the falconers, and enjoy a variety of birds in flight through the day.

Displays and demonstrations will take place in Alnwick Castle's Barneyside Area at 11am, 1pm & 3pm.
