Castle Museum
The Castle Museum, located in the Postern Tower, has been a fixture for nearly 200 years. Founded by the 4th Duke of Northumberland in the mid-19th century to promote Northumberland’s archaeology, the museum initially showcased Roman and early British antiquities, many found locally.
By 1930, its collection expanded to include artefacts from various periods of British and Celtic history. Today, the museum still holds many of these items, reflecting the collecting interests of several generations of the Percy family.

Constable's Tower
In June 2018, Alnwick Castle re-opened the Constable's Tower after nearly two years of renovation. Be sure to visit the Tower's three floors during your trip.
On the basement level, explore a space largely unchanged since the 14th century, possibly once a storeroom, offering a glimpse into the Castle's medieval interiors.
On the middle level, discover fascinating items collected by the Dukes of Northumberland, including a nineteenth-century "velocipede", an early form of bicycle.
On the top level, learn about the Percy Tenantry Volunteers, a regiment formed during the Napoleonic Wars. Watch an animated film about their history and see the weapons and equipment they used, all carefully restored during the Tower's refurbishment.
