Accessibility at Alnwick Castle
Alnwick Castle is a beautiful and historic site, with a mix of charming buildings and various surfaces like cobblestones, flagstones, grass, gravel, and wood. Where possible, we’ve made every effort to ensure the castle is accessible for wheelchair, mobility scooter, and buggy users, so everyone can enjoy the experience as much as possible.

Partial access is available for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Please speak to a team member on arrival for guidance on suitable routes.

A letter confirming Carer’s Allowance or recognition by a local authority.
-
A letter from a GP confirming their carer registration.

A registered carer card (e.g. CredAbility, CEA Card).
Getting Around
The State Rooms have limited access due to steps. A one-person lift is available to bypass the Grand Staircase. It does not accommodate wheelchairs, but seating is provided. Visitors with mobility issues can exit via the lift. Please note there is some stepped access to reach the lift. No ramps are available for motorised scooters or wheelchairs in the State Rooms, though wheelchairs are provided where possible. The cobbled courtyard is accessible, and mobility scooters are recommended to be left in the courtyard due to space limitations inside. The Great Kitchen is currently accessed by steps with handrails. The castle's towers contain narrow spiral staircases.
